In today’s fast-paced and often stressful world, it’s easy to neglect our health and well-being. We may skip workouts, eat unhealthy foods, and sacrifice sleep in favor of working longer hours or socializing. However, the adage “health is wealth” rings more accurate now than ever. Investing in our physical and mental health is not only essential for our happiness and quality of life, but it also has significant financial benefits.

According to the World Health Organization, “Health is a complete state of physical, mental, and social well-being, not only the absence of disease or infirmity.” This indicates that genuine health entails more than only being free of sickness or damage, but also our total well-being and enjoyment. We are better equipped to enjoy all parts of life when we prioritize our health, from our relationships and occupations to our hobbies and passions.

However, the advantages of excellent health go beyond our satisfaction. Obesity, diabetes, and heart disease are among the top causes of mortality and disability globally, and they impose a large financial burden on people and society as a whole. We may lower our chance of getting these chronic disorders by taking care of our bodies via adequate diet, exercise, and stress management, saving ourselves and the healthcare system money in the long run.

So how can we prioritize our health and well-being? Here are a few tips to get started:

Make fitness a part of your daily routine: Aim for 150 minutes of moderate-intensity activity each week or 75 minutes of vigorous-intensity exercise.

Get enough sleep: Adults should sleep for 7–9 hours every night, while children and teenagers should sleep for up to 10 hours.

Manage stress: Engage in activities that help you relax and reduce stress, such as meditation, yoga, or exercise.

By taking care of our bodies and minds, we can not only improve our overall well-being but also save ourselves and society significant costs in the long run. Remember, health is wealth — it’s an investment worth making.”
